Brisbane 2032 Olympic Venues Set to Be Announced

The official venues for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are about to be revealed, marking a major milestone four years after Queensland secured the rights to host the global event.

Premier David Crisafulli is expected to unveil the long-awaited plans just after midday AEST on Tuesday, outlining which cities across Queensland will host specific events. The announcement will bring clarity to the ongoing debate over the Games’ most significant—and expensive—venue decisions.

One of the most closely watched elements is the decision on where the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics events, will be held.

During the election campaign, then-opposition leader Mr Crisafulli pledged that no new stadiums would be built. However, speculation has intensified ahead of the announcement, with reports already indicating that Olympic hockey will take place on the Gold Coast rather than at the Queensland Rugby Union’s Brisbane facility.

A key decision still facing the state government is choosing between four potential stadiums for the track and field events and the ceremonial showcases. Former premier Steven Miles had favoured splitting the athletics and ceremonies across two venues—a proposal that has since become a point of contention.

Among the options being considered is a brand-new, 70,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park, projected to cost $3.4 billion. Positioned above the Inner City Bypass and within walking distance of three major train stations, the site offers strong logistical advantages. Despite Mr Crisafulli’s campaign promise against building new stadiums, the Victoria Park development is widely expected to become the Games’ main venue and central hub.
